Boutique Hotel in Bath - The Halcyon beds have arrived!

The beds have arrived!...these are serious beds. I didn't realise there was so much to learn about a bed - we've had them bespokely made for the hotel, 1700 pocket sprung beds with silk and cashmere filling. Did you know they put silk and cashmere in beds?!....i spent a whole day at the factory looking at the process it goes through and why it makes all the difference to a comfy nights sleep.

Pocket springs across the mattress give you the support you need with the softness you want from a bed - the more the pockets the better (more expensive) the beds essentially. So when I was comparing beds, another manufacturer offered 2000 pocket springs - I must go for that then I thought!...oh my ignorance, apparently most beds advertised with 2000 pockets  are just 2 lots of 1000 springs on top of each other therefore you get a similar benefit to just having 1000 pockets!....have I bored any one yet!?......

Anyway - rest assured, plenty of research was carried on to ensure we have fantastic beds which will help you have a wonderful nights sleep, after all it is what you are after when staying in a hotel for a night. Are they the comfiest beds in a boutique hotel in Bath?!.....I'll let you know when i stay there this weekend.

New Bath boutique hotel brand - The Halcyon

Design Week, 13 August 2009

Bath-based Mytton Williams has created the brand for a new boutique hotel set to open in the city next year.

The consultancy won the Halcyon Hotel brief around two months ago, according to designer Keith Hancox.

Mytton Williams was tasked with developing a brand expression for the hotel, based on the concept of ‘affordable luxury’.

Hancox says the Halcyon Hotel, on the site previously occupied by the George Hotel, will aim to cater for people who want the style and function of a luxury boutique hotel, but at an affordable price.

Halcyon Hotel owner Giles Thomas says, ‘It was quite important that the identity had a bit of character - we wanted it to be sharp and contemporary, but also fun.’

The branding is set to launch with a new website, also being designed by Mytton Williams, which will go live at the end of September or beginning of October.

The hotel is due to open in spring 2010, with the brand applied to ‘everything from coasters to umbrellas’, as well as outdoor signage and hotel bicycles, according to Hancox.

New Boutique Hotel in Bath

The Guardian, 2 January 2010

New Bath rooms

Considering its popularity as a weekend destination, Bath has a dearth of affordable boutique hotels. There's the Queensberry, and, er, that's it. So the Halcyon, due to open in February, will come as a welcome addition. The website claims that this 21-room city-centre hotel will offer "heavy-duty luxury at a light-on-the-wallet price". With no pictures on the website at the time of going to press, it's hard to judge to what extent this is PR puff but with standard rooms starting at £99 (£89, Mon-Thur in February), and cocktails in the hotel bar from £6, it's looking hopeful. A Grade I listed Georgian townhouse, it will offer rooms kitted out with Philippe Starck bathroom fittings and White Company products. And with bikes and boats for guests to borrow, a cheeky spring break suddenly seems doable.

The Halcyon - Best Cocktail Bar in Bath!?

I've just returned from the cocktail training in the bar - a great afternoon, think it may have to become regular event! I was being relatively sensible as i have a fair amount of work to do this evening but some of those flavours were fantastic it was difficult to just take just one sip!

The Halcyon isn't just a boutique hotel in Bath - its a place to meet, drink and relax - There aren't to many cocktail bars in Bath so The Halcyon will be the place to come, the setting is relaxing and very cool, soulful beats and knowledgeable bar staff that mix a great house cocktail - The Halcyon cocktail is a definite must have!
